With Techpastors, I want to create a source of technology knowledge and news that is primarily aimed at churches, Christian organizations and Christians. I believe there is a genuine need for easily read, practical explanations of what technology can do for us. Instead of encouraging people to use technology for the sole reason of it being available.
Over the past centuries we have seen the relationship between church and society change. And with that, the way in which we reach out to people with the gospel message has changed. We saw greater groups being reached by great evangelists throughout the late 19th century due to the availability of faster travel. Both for the evangelist as well as the people that came to listen. We have seen the impact of the more relational approaches that have been chosen around the middle of the 20th century. And that has been the approach that the larger missionary organizations have remained loyal to throughout the years.
The church in itself has seen similar changes in the way it has been able to work. From the village church that was present in every community, people are now traveling to be at certain churches. The availability of travel has made a huge difference in our approach to attending. And to the way we expect the church to approach us.
Technology is a next step. I strongly believe that it will have more impact on the church than the invention of the television, the plane, the car, the bike and the telephone have had. Simply because technology allows us to do the single thing better that God has created us for. We were to be in relationship with God and with each other. And technology has enabled us to be closer to one another than anything has ever done before.
Will I just sing technologies praises on this website? Surely not. I strongly believe that everything has its advantages as well as its disadvantages. But we need to step up, identify them and address them.
I hope Techpastors can become a help for you and your church or Christian organization. It is my intention to make it a place of inspiration and a place where you can find answers. Also, I do not want to be the one that dictates what will be written about on this site. If you have questions, please send them to me through the contact form. If you have suggestions for topics, please let me know. Also, if you are a keen writer with an interest in technology and faith, and you would like to contribute, please let me know.
